Nate Diaz is getting back to the UFC, and his first adversary is another fighter who is no more bizarre to long layoffs.
The fluctuating star will confront Leon Edwards at UFC 262 out of a co-main event, on a similar card as the lightweight title battle between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira, as per ESPN’s Marc Raimondi. Notwithstanding not being a main event, the session will apparently be five rounds, the UFC’s first non-title co-main event to feature additional rounds.
Diaz declared the battle, which will happen at the Toyota Center in Houston, on Twitter on Tuesday.
Diaz has not showed up in the UFC Octagon since UFC 244 in Nov. 2019, when he lost to Jorge Masvidal in the symbolic BMF battle. Prior to that battle, he defeated Anthony Pettis in a session went before by three years of inertia.
Edwards is falling off a disillusioning completion to his first battle in almost two years. After a strong beginning, Edwards’ inadvertent eye poke of Belal Muhammad prompted a no-contest recently. As per ESPN, the UFC had expected to match with Edwards against Colby Covington, yet Covington apparently would not consent to the battle for undisclosed reasons.
Regardless of that finishing, Edwards actually has an unbeaten streak returning to 2015 — when he lost to current welterweight champ Kamaru Usman — and spanning nine battles. Edwards had really called out Diaz in February, and it shows up condition has now united the pair.
