Merrimans’ Playhouse and the University of Notre Dame’s Snite Museum of Art present the arrival of their summer jazz series in the museum’s courtyard.
Curated by Stephen and Mary Merriman of Merrimans’ Playhouse, the series incorporates the following:
• The Scott Routenberg Trio from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday: The threesome includes Scott Routenberg for piano, Jonathan Wood on bass and Cassius Goens III on drums. Situated in Indianapolis, the threesome spends significant time in Routenberg’s award-winning compositions, Brazilian jazz and new interpretations of the standard repertoire.
• The Gustavo Cortiñas Sextet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19: The Sextet remembers Drew Hansen for trumpet, Artie Black on reeds, Euán Edmonds on trombone, Joaquin Garcia on piano, Kitt Lyles on bass and Gustavo Cortiñas on drums. Cortiñas gets back to the Snite to introduce “Desafio Candente,” a work of fourteen original compositions that draw motivation from Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano’s “The Open Veins of Latin America.”
Affirmation is restricted to the initial 75 individuals to show up. Bring a cover or folding chair for seating.
The museum’s galleries additionally will be open, including the current highlighted exhibit, the installation “Chair of the Ministers” of Defense by Kevin Beasley.
In consistence with university regulations, all guests should wear masks inside and stay six feet from different guests not in their group.
