Google revealed on Wednesday that all Google Photos users will receive free access to a number of its generative artificial intelligence-powered photo-editing capabilities.
The business announced in a blog post that it will broaden access to AI-powered editing features, which were previously exclusive to its Pixel phones and its Google One cloud storage subscription service, starting on May 15 and continuing over the ensuing weeks.
Among the AI capabilities available in Google Photos are Magic Eraser, which eliminates undesired objects from images, Photo Unblur, which sharpens out-of-focus images, and Portrait Light, which may adjust the lighting in a photo.
According to Google, other devices, including Pixel tablets, will get such functions as part of the rollout. Android 8.0 or iOS 15 or above is required for users on mobile devices, while desktop users of Google’s operating system must utilize a Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS version 118+ or have at least 3GB RAM, according to Google.
Google is also extending the Magic Editor functionality to all Pixel devices as part of the launch that takes place next month. Ten Magic Editor photo saves will be sent to all Google Photos users on iOS and Android each month, the company announced. Users of Pixel devices and premium Google One members will enjoy limitless saves when they pay for a 2TB storage plan.
The Magic Editor function, which debuted with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro last autumn, creates new imagery to fill in the blanks in photos by using generative AI to perform various photo modifications like shifting subjects, eliminating objects, or altering the color of the sky.
