Asus unveiled the Vivobook S 15 (S5507), the company’s first Copilot Plus PC laptop, powered by Snapdragon X-series CPUs from Qualcomm, after Microsoft’s Windows event. With 45 TOPS of neural processing capability, Asus claims that the Arm-based CPU would not only enhance a few existing Vivobook functions but also enable future AI-driven workloads and programs to run smoothly.
Though this particular model will feature a thinner chassis and display bezels, the new Vivobook S 15 will have the same OLED display as the previous Intel generation (15.6-inch, 16:9, 2880 x 1620, 120Hz refresh rate, and 600 nits peak HDR brightness). The S 15 can be ordered with a 12-core Snapdragon X Elite or a 10-core X Plus processor; however, the Elite model will be the base model, without dual core boost and having a slower integrated GPU.
Both S 15 variants come with two USB-A connections, two USB 4.0 Type-C ports, one HDMI 2.1 port, an audio/mic combo jack, a microSD card reader, and the capacity to support up to 32GB of onboard memory and 1TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. In addition, there is Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7.
The StoryCube app, developed by Asus, is exclusive to the Vivobook S 15. It utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to organize, modify, organize, and export RAW images and videos. Additionally, according to Asus, the Snapdragon’s NPU capabilities will accelerate other AI tasks in programs like Cocreator and Windows Studio Effects.
As a more affordable option to its ProArt line, Asus targets digital artists, graphic designers, and other visual creatives with its Vivobooks. While most Vivobook notebooks employ integrated graphics, some Vivobook Pro models contain standalone GPUs, similar to those found in ProArt computers. Beginning the launch with a Vivobook may be Asus showing off the capabilities of the new chip, or it may be the business hedging its risks.
A few stores are currently accepting preorders for the Asus Vivobook S 15 with a Snapdragon X Elite; however, it won’t ship until June 18. While the $1,299 16GB / 1TB version will be sold by a number of shops, the $1,399 version with 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage will only be available at Costco. Later this year, a Snapdragon X Plus model will be available, though the price of that one is unknown.
