The massive Indian IT company Infosys said on September 19 that it would invest roughly $2 million in the Indian Earth observation startup GalaxEye Space.
The company wrote on LinkedIn, “GalaxEye is proud to have Infosys, a global leader in technology and innovation, as a Strategic Investor in our Series A Round.” T“Their decades of experience in digital innovation and engineering are a perfect complement to our mission of reshaping Space Technology & Earth Observation. With this partnership, we aim to bring advances in Satellite Data Fusion, AI-driven Analytics and Next-Gen Space Technologies, paving the way for new insights and Solutions from Spacec.”
Soon after GalaxEye CEO Suyash Singh discussed the company’s intentions during World Satellite Business Week here, Infosys announced its investment in the company.
GalaxEye, dubbed “the world’s first” multi-sensor Earth observation satellite, is getting ready to launch in 2025. A multispectral sensor and a synthetic aperture radar will be installed on the satellite. According to Singh, GalaxEye has shown how well the sensors work on drones.
GalaxEye will be able to serve the Indian Armed Forces with unique capabilities because to the integration of sensors on a single spacecraft. According to GalaxEye’s website, the sensors will assist analysts in detecting military camouflage, tracking troop movements, and conducting surveillance in poor light.
In August, GalaxEye declared that it had completed a $6.5 million Series A funding round. An additional $2 million is provided to the startup by the Infosys investment.
Along with four other students from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Singh co-founded GalaxEye in 2021. The students previously collaborated in the 2019 SpaceX Hyperloop competition, where they were chosen as finalists.
