Cortex Applications Inc., a productivity platform startup, announced it has raised $60 million in funding to enhance its internal developer platform, increase developer awareness, and integrate more advanced workflows, engineering intelligence, and artificial intelligence.
Founded in 2019, Cortex provides a platform that helps companies streamline software development by cataloging, scoring, and prioritizing actions to improve service quality and speed. The goal is to enable developers to focus on work that advances the business.
Cortex serves as a centralized hub for engineering teams, offering a single source of truth for software ownership, operational status, and resource allocation. By centralizing service catalogs and compliance metrics, Cortex enhances visibility and control over the development environment, saving time and effort in tracking critical data.
Key features include automated tasks such as ownership tracking and setup processes, integration with identity providers and incident management tools, and predefined “golden paths” for software development, which simplify and accelerate new projects.
The platform fosters continuous improvement through its scoring and assessment tools, which set service standards and offer actionable recommendations to enhance compliance and service quality.
Notable clients using Cortex include Adobe, Grammarly, and Opendoor Technologies. The $60 million funding round was led by Scale Venture Partners, with participation from Sequoia Capital, Institutional Venture Partners, and Y Combinator.
“We’re investing in Cortex because it addresses two critical challenges for engineering teams: centralizing essential information for software development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement,” said Eric Anderson, a partner at Scale Venture Partners.
