The Honda Talon sport side-by-side won the top prize in the third annual South Carolina Manufacturing Madness competition and was dubbed the “Coolest Thing Made in SC” during a recent event held at the South Carolina State House. The four-week event was hosted by the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance, and 166 nominated products made in the state were up for public voting.
“Everyone at American Honda is thrilled for this recognition, particularly given the caliber of the competition,” said Travis Lee, site lead at Honda South Carolina Manufacturing. “Thank you to those who voted for Honda. In voting for Talon, you’re really voting for our most important asset—our associates. Without them, an award like this would not be possible, so thank you to the team in Timmonsville for all you do.”
Honda South Carolina Manufacturing (SCM), which started producing ATVs in 1998, celebrates 25 years of producing powersports goods in July 2023. More than a thousand people work at SCM, which is the only place in the world where Honda side-by-side cars are produced, including the Talon performance versions and the Pioneer multipurpose series. More than 3.8 million powersports goods have been produced in Timmonsville by SCM associates during the previous 25 years.
Lee went on, “We’re very proud to build the Honda Talon in Timmonsville.” “We look forward to many more years of manufacturing popular—and cool—powersports products in South Carolina.”
Honda’s Talon range has done well in the marketplace and in racing since it made its debut for the 2019 model year, winning classes in the Baja 1000, Mint 400, CHAMP short-course series, and other events. With seven various configurations to choose from (four two-seaters and three four-seaters), the Talon family boasts first-in-class innovations including i-4WD and an advanced automatic dual-clutch transmission.
