Custom GPT Builder, one of the main draws for customers to purchase Microsoft’s Copilot Pro, is gradually disappearing.
According to Microsoft, GPT Builder is being discontinued, and if you purchased it, you must delete all of your data by July 14. Regretfully, Microsoft stated in a support document that it does not view the ability to create GPT models as a consumer priority.
A “neutral,” Microsoft-specific variation of Copilot is called Microsoft Copilot. For all users, the experience is essentially the same. GPT Builder lets you train a custom Copilot using your own data and style, so you may think of it as a method to customize Copilot in a similar way to how you can customize your PC. It is similar to what Apple claimed to have announced this week with “Apple Intelligence”—that is, that it would recognize you and allow you to modify it as necessary. Not for Copilot anymore.
On July 10, construction of new GPTs will cease.
Microsoft stated, “We are committed to developer opportunities and are prioritizing core product experiences while continuing to evaluate our strategy for consumer Copilot extensibility.” “To this end, we are shifting our focus on GPTs to Commercial and Enterprise scenarios and are stopping GPT efforts in consumer Copilot.”
Microsoft declared that it would eliminate the information gathered in addition to the eliminated GPT models. After July 14, you won’t be able to access any GPTs that you’ve generated.
However, Microsoft’s move negates one of the main justifications for purchasing Microsoft Copilot Pro, a $20/month subscription that the company first revealed in January. Above and above the original Copilot offering, Copilot Pro included three additional benefits: the Custom GPT Builder, Copilot in Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote), and priority access to new LLMs. There are now only the first two left.
