Samsung updates older Galaxy phones with the August security patch

The August security update for Samsung phones is being sent rapidly, which is indicative of its significance. It is now available for certain years-old former flagships in the US after being added to the Galaxy S24 range and some Galaxy Fold models last week.

The update is currently available for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra, according to SamMobile. Additionally, a broader rollout was made to cover carrier-locked models with the Galaxy S23 series. The S23 update has already been sent to Comcast, Dish, T-Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile networks.

Thirty-five of the fifty patches included in this most recent security update come straight from Google. Many of the improvements are ones that Samsung has deemed essential or high-priority. A detailed overview of the modifications is available here. As the update is purely security-related, the One UI 6.1.1 upgrade will take a bit longer to arrive.

As usual, if your device has the security update, you should be prompted to download and install it. By navigating to Settings > Software update and asking your phone to look for the most recent update, you can also manually check for it.

S901USQS6EXG8 on the Galaxy S22, S906USQS6EXG8 on the S22 Plus, S908USQS6EXG8 on the S22 Ultra, and S91XUSQS4CXG8 on the carrier-locked S23 phones are the build numbers for the August security update that you should be on the lookout for. The Galaxy Note 20’s firmware finishes with HXH1.
